Den Meetings

By Weekly

We meet each Monday night at Mineral Wells United Methodist Church.

Our meetings begin with a flag ceremony where the cubs march in, recite the Pledge of Allegiance, The Scout Oath, and the Scout Law. From there we split into our smaller groups, or dens, to work on our rank advancements and adventure loops. When each den is done for the night, they are sent off until our next meeting.

Each Den Meeting typically lasts about an hour. The scouts are welcome to dress in their Class A uniforms during these meetings, but it isn’t necessary.

Raingutter Regatta

By Past

The raingutter regatta is the sailboat equivalent of the pinewood derby. The sailboat kit consists of a balsa wood hull, a mast, plastic sail, plastic rudder, and metal keel. Within the basic design rules, Scouts are free to paint and decorate their sailboats as they choose. Modifications for speed include the placement of the keel and rudder and the size, shape and location of the sail.

The boats are raced in a standard rain gutter that is ten feet long, placed on a table or saw horses, and filled to the top with water. The boats are propelled by blowing on the sail, either directly or through a drinking straw; the boat cannot be touched with hands or the straw. The first boat to reach the end of the gutter is the winner.

It’s a ton of fun and your Cub Scout will not want to miss this event!
